PUREORA MANAGEMENT HUNTS

September 2026 to July 2027

These hunts are being conducted on DOC land and will be available over the September 2026 to July 2027 period. This is to support DOC managing deer numbers in parts of the Pureora Forest Park together with gathering information on animal numbers and bush condition.

Each NZDA branch in the Central North Island region will be allocated a specific weekend (Thursday to Monday). Any NZDA member is able to hunt on all or any of the weekends that are allocated to the branches.

Fly in trips at $400.00pp for the current season
Heli-Hire Tihoi (Chris Wynn)
Weight limit: 240kg per 2-pax load (pack/roll bag + rifle)
DOC landing concession fees have been waived
Focus is to cull as many deer, pigs and goats (if encountered) as possible
Pureora bush is challenging – high level bush stalking skills required
Meat recovery: boned out only, within weight limit

Work is also being carried out with the Access NZ committee to get better walk in and vehicle access to the block.

SIKA FOUNDATION MANAGEMENT HUNTS

There are up to six Sika Foundation Management Hunts each year, June to March with cost effective flights available through the Foundation.

One of the Foundation's main objectives is to actively manage the Central North Island Sika herd in order to provide enhanced benefits to hunters and a higher level of protection for the forests and grasslands in which they live.

Dogs are welcome on the Management Hunts but only if they have been through Avian awareness and avoidance training.
