The main firearms in New Zealand are airguns, rifles and shotguns.  These can be owned under an A Category Firearms Licence

Rifles have "rifling" (twists) inside their barrels and shotguns are smooth

No matter what firearms you are using you must always adhere to the Seven Basic Rules at all times:​

1. Always point firearms in a safe direction
2. Chamber  a cartridge only when ready to fire
3. Identify your target beyond all doubt
4. Check your firing zone
5. Store and transport firearms and ammunition safely
6. Avoid alcohol or drugs when handling firearms 
7. Treat every firearm as loaded

Range 1: 
​100 metre Rifle multi discipline outdoor Reduced Danger Area Range with 100m Pop-over.
Range 2: 
50 metre moving target multi discipline outdoor rifle No Danger Area Range (Running Boar) 
Range 3 (currently under construction): 
50 Metre multi discipline outdoor rifle range
Range 4: 
​ A Full Danger Area Sporting Clay outdoor range, with multiple shooting stations incorporating a DTL layout within the south field shooting box. Range 4 is split into two sections – the North Field and the South Field.  These can be used separately or as one complete Fields.  This range is only for TVDA Organised and/or approved events – strictly no casual use.

 Hours:
 7.00am – dusk for all shooting disciplines (outside Daylight Saving)

7.00am – 7.30pm during Daylight Saving for centrefire and shotguns (including .22 magnums) when the range is used casually by individuals.

The use of .22 long rifle rimfire, air rifle shooting and archery is permitted to continue through from 7.30pm to dusk for casual use of the ranges during Daylight Saving

No Shooting is permitted on Christmas Day or Boxing Day

Shooting is permitted after 12.00pm on Anzac Day
